Etiquette has always been sort of a touchy subject, especially when it comes to weddings.

Weddings are usually filled with traditions and customs and the ceremony is no exception. So it’s no wonder that people are nervous about what do to with the wedding minister. Since ministers deal with a world filled with religious customs and traditions, many couples are afraid to directly ask sticky questions and yet they don’t want to commit some etiquette faux pas. This is where I come in. As an insider, I’m here to help couples navigate the world of wedding minister etiquette.

Etiquette Question #1: Do we invite the minister to our rehearsal dinner? Generally, an invitation to the rehearsal dinner is not necessary even though it is a thoughtful gesture. The exception to this would be if you’ve known the minister for a long time or if the rehearsal dinner is being held on church property, but even then it’s more of a friendly gesture and not a hard etiquette rule.

Etiquette Question #2: Do I invite the minister to our reception? This one is a little tricky. How do you tell the most important person at your ceremony that they aren’t welcome to stay for dinner?

Traditionally, it’s proper to invite the minister to the reception, especially if that person has a special connection in your life. Generally speaking, most ministers don’t expect to be invited to the reception unless they have known the couple for a long time and many will only stay for cocktails and/or h’or deourves.

Etiquette Question #3: Where do we seat the minister? It’s generally not required that the minister sit at the head table. Having them seated with your family, either parents, such as parents or grandparents, is a good idea especially if they are affiliated with their church.

Etiquette Question #4: Do we tip the minister? It’s easy to see why this is a questions couples hate to ask. You sign a contract and pay deposits and fees just like any other vendor, but somehow it always seems strange tipping a minister like you would any other vendor. Tipping is never mandatory, it’s to reward exceptional service. The minister’s fee is all you’re required to pay and that’s all they expect from you. If you feel they have done a wonderful service, feel free to add money to an envelope to deliver to them after the ceremony is finished. Again, tipping is not required or expected for the minister.

I hope that this clears up some confusion and helps every couple navigate the wedding minister etiquette world a little better. When in doubt, however, don’t be afraid to ask your minister what they are comfortable with. Don’t forget that they deal with weddings all the time and although you may feel strange asking, they are comfortable answering.

Each year, many couples decide to nix a splashy wedding ceremony and celebration and instead elope to Washington State. Washington State and the Pacific Northwest offer some of the most fantastic elopement locations and venues for a couple and with picturesque mountains, water, countryside and much more, this State offers many wedding site options.

As you consider “where” to elope in Washington State, here are 6 fun location ideas for your easy and small wedding ceremony:

1) Leavenworth, Washington - A two-hour ride from Seattle, Leavenworth is a sweet little German town that welcomes weddings of all sizes in a big day. Here, you can find quaint inns and bed and breakfast places offering elopement packages at affordable rates, especially during off-season. While in Leavenworth, you can get married, enjoy a great overnight or two at a special place and perhaps celebrate your wedding bliss by taking advantage of many of the guided outdoor adventures – cross-country skiing, white water rafting or hiking.

2) Ruby Beach and the Washington State Coast - The Coast of Washington is a big place and little known Ruby is a beautiful and mesmerizing place to exchange wedding vows. Ruby Beach is located just South of Forks, Washington. Once you reach Ruby Beach, you and your officiant and witnesses can take a short hike down to the ocean and get married waterside. Consult the tide schedule to insure a best time for your ceremony and also take a peek at the map and Washington State ferry schedule as you plan your journey to the Washington Coast. For instance, if you are traveling to Ruby Beach from Seattle, it will take you 4-6 hours to get there, depending on what route you take.

3) Ashford, Washington (Mount Rainier) – If you and your Sweetheart are outdoor enthusiasts, consider getting married near or at the base of Mount Rainier. Eloping to the Ashford area and Mt. Rainier is best in the Spring and Summer season and the surrounding area offers luxurious as well as rustic accommodations for your wedding night.

4) Tulalip Resort & Casino – Calling all casino lovers! Believe it or not, the popular Tulalip Casino & Resort hosts a number of small and intimate wedding ceremonies each year. Located one hour North of Seattle, this plush resort not offers a fabulous casino but a wonderful resort where you can snuggle in and relish in your new married status!

5) The San Juan Islands (on the ferry or Island) – There is nothing more fun than getting married on a Washington State Ferry and/or hitching a ride on ferry and getting married on a Puget Sound island. Orcas Island and San Juan Island are two of the most popular “marrying islands” in Washington and offers a wide variety of locations and venues. Contact the Chamber of Commerce on both Islands for venue information.

6) Port Townsend, Washington – This seaside town is a favorite for couples in Washington State who want to elope but don’t want to travel too far. Port Townsend offers waterside locations as well as city parks for your wedding ceremony. And if you want to be married in a historic castle, check out Port Townsend’s Manresa Castle!

We TV beach wedding vows?

Did anyone else catch We TV’s “Beach Weddings” this past Sunday? One of the couples had beautiful vows, and even nore beautiful was what the minister 9female) said about the wedding rings. It was something about how the rings will get nicks and stratches, just as the bride and groom will but if you take it off and look inside it still ooks beautiful, just like the bride and groom will. I’d LOVE to have the exact wording for this if ANYONE can help!!!!
I’ve checked YouTube and couldn’t find it. And all We TV has is a guide of when the show was on.

have you looked for the episode on youtube? or does we tv have a way for you to watch the episode?

Wedding Florist – Beautiful Arrangements For Your Big Day

When deciding on a florist seek personal recommendations from friends and recently married acquaintances. If you are unable to decide, it is best to visit several and look at their displays. Most florists will allow you visit them at a time when they have prepared flowers for other weddings so that you can see the quality of their work.

The florist should be given notice of the wedding approximately four months in advance so that he is free on the day. The florist will want to discuss precise details around six weeks before the wedding.

Many flowers can now be obtained out of season because they are grown in greenhouses and are imported from other parts of the world. Seasonal flowers, however, are more likely to fresher and less expensive.

Hopefully your church and reception location aren’t far apart from each other. This will come in handy when choosing a florist. Your best bet is to go with one that is local to the wedding and reception areas to cut down on costly delivery fees. The quicker your flowers reach their destination the fresher they will be.

Before choosing a wedding florist, several decisions should have been made. You should already know the type of wedding and reception you have planned and their locations should already be booked. For instance, if you are having a beach wedding the bride will want a small bouquet to go with her more informal beach wedding dress.

You should also know what color table linens will be used at the reception and what color dresses the bridal party will be wearing. This information is important when comparison shopping since you want to choose flowers to match the decor.

It’s probably a good idea to first check with your banquet manager to see if flowers for the reception are included in your catering package. If they are, and this is acceptable to you, you’ll only need to discuss ceremonial flowers and bouquets.

A florist who is armed with this information can give you a more accurate quote.

Like all other aspects of your wedding, you’ll want to comparison shop to get the best value for your money. Visit with different wedding florists and describe what you’d like for your wedding. He’ll probably have several books for you to look through to choose the flowers and centerpieces that compliment your wedding and reception. Keep in mind that flowers are seasonal. To save money, go with blooms that are in season. If they’re out of season, make sure they won’t cost much money to bring in from other parts of the country. Exotic flowers are sure to be more expensive.

In your quest for the perfect flowers for your wedding, don’t discount the neighborhood florist. He might not advertise as a wedding florist, but he probably knows what he’s doing. Even better, he probably charges less than the one at the wedding super center. The service is sure to be more personalized and he’ll have more time to sit with you and find flowers to suit your needs.

Once you’ve visited several shops, browsed their books and received their quotes, it’s time for you to begin choosing a wedding florist. Do you want to go with the wedding florist who charges the lowest fee or the florist with the prettiest floral arrangements? Do you want personalized service, or a limited package provided by the wedding super center or catering hall? Don’t forget to ask about flower preservation! Whatever you do, don’t settle for the cheapest price if the package doesn’t feel right to you. It is, after all, the most important day of your life.

Does anyone have any good sites for planning a beach wedding in Puerto Rico?

Most of the site I come up with are bogus, advertisement sites. Advice from anyone who has planned a destination wedding would be helpful!

Hi
We just returned from Jamaica yesterday, where my daughter got married Dec 31rst.

We just researched the hotels we were interested in. They all have wedding packages. Once you’ve picked out the hotel you like, you can then ask for the wedding package to see the prices, and what it includes. Whats extra etc.

The wedding planner at our hotel was fabulous. He even changed the date of the wedding for us, because the weather report was calling for thunderstorms. The wedding was scheduled for Dec 28th, but was changed until New Years Eve afternoon. And let me tell you, the wedding was amazing. And the album the photographer put together was like something out of a fairy tale.

All the packages start out with the basic pkg, and then there will be the extras, like hair, photos. We rented the gazebo, that was out over the water for our dinner, waiter service & our dance. We had it for as long as we wanted and cost only 200.00 usd extra. The entire wedding including everything cost around 1450.00 usd. There was only 6 of us. Obviously the more people it’ll cost more for champagne & the dinner etc.

5 Reasons to Plan a Destination Wedding in Jamaica

Are you getting ready to plan your upcoming wedding? If so, your first thought may be to have a beautiful ceremony back home. Yes, this is nice, but have you considered destination weddings, like in Jamaica? If not, now is the time. Although most couples don’t need convincing, you may wonder what makes a destination wedding better than a traditional wedding back home.

1 – The Weather

If you live in New York and plan a wedding in the middle of July, you are likely to find warm hot weather. This is great, but the heat and humidity may leave it feeling too hot. With the Caribbean and the island of Jamaica, you don’t just get warm weather, but tropical weather too! Then, there is the rain. The weather is somewhat unpredictable all around the world, but you are more likely to find scattered showers and thunderstorms in New York and many other areas of the United States than in Jamaica.

As with a wedding back home, you have many venue choices. Some Jamaica resorts have onsite chapels, but most give you many choices. If you opt for a garden or beach wedding, the beautiful, warm, sunny, and tropical weather makes your wedding ceremony nothing short of picture perfect.

2 – All-Inclusive Resorts

There are many all-inclusive resorts on the island of Jamaica. You may wonder what impact this has on your wedding ceremony. These resorts are the perfect place to have a destination wedding. Most give you many ceremony options. If a small wedding chapel is not found onsite, you may get to choose from a garden, the beach, or a banquet room.

Most importantly, some all-inclusive Jamaica resorts give you a unique opportunity. That is to have a free wedding ceremony. Yes, a free wedding ceremony! Many luxury resorts extend a free standard wedding to guests who meet a minimum stay requirement. This stay requirement varies depending on the Caribbean resort in question, but it is usually three, five, or seven nights. After examining a resort’s free wedding inclusions, you should like what you see. Luckily, affordable upgrades are available if you want more.

3 – The Ability to Combine Your Wedding and Honeymoon

Planning a wedding is a joyous experience, but it can also be stressful and time consuming. Not only that, but you must later plan the honeymoon. The island of Jamaica gives you another unique opportunity. That is to combine your destination wedding and honeymoon into one. Since the island is home to all-inclusive resorts, great restaurants, lots of activities, beautiful beaches, and tropical weather, you will have the honeymoon of your dreams. For your destination wedding, you may have intended to stay two nights. Extend your stay until seven nights for your honeymoon. Plus, this makes it easier to qualify for the above mentioned free wedding that may be offered.

4 – Your Friends and Family Can Come Too

One concern that many couples have about destination weddings surrounds guests. Whether you live in New York, California, or Florida, you may wonder if your guests will make the extra trip to the Caribbean. Honestly, some may not, but you may be surprised how many jump at the opportunity. Not only do they get to attend your wedding, but they get their own Jamaica vacation! Most all-inclusive resorts have a few free guests passes and additional available for sale. This means guests staying at a different resort can attend your ceremony without complications.

5 – It Will Be Cheaper Than You Thought

As previously stated, many couples automatically write off destination weddings due to complications of planning and cost. Don’t make this mistake. As previously stated, you can save money by opting for a resort with a free standard wedding ceremony, combining your wedding and honeymoon into one trip, looking for discount travel packages, and so forth. There are many ways to trim the cost of an otherwise expensive wedding. As for ease of planning, most luxury all-inclusive Jamaica resorts have wedding planners available. They will help you plan the wedding of your dreams, even though you may be thousands of miles away.

What to Consider Before You Get Married in Hawaii

Planning to get married in Hawaii? You will need to devote a lot of time and effort to prepare for your dream destination wedding. Of course, you want a perfect wedding in a perfect location. The following are several things to consider before you say your “I do” in Hawaii.

·         Weather. Summer months are preferred by many couples for Hawaii weddings. However, the sunny weather tends to be humid, which can be uncomfortable if the bride is dressed in a long gown and the groom in a tuxedo. A late afternoon wedding ceremony during summer months is the ideal weather for a Hawaii wedding.

·         View of sunset in Oahu. What makes an Oahu wedding very memorable is the charming backdrop of sunset, making Oahu a great wedding location in Hawaii. You get the best view of the sunset during winter months. If you schedule your wedding in summer, the beach location should face the West so that the sun can be seen setting over water.

·         Legal requirements. You will need to meet certain legal requirements before you can get a marriage license. Know these requirements before you get married to avoid legal problems in the future.

·         Wedding packages. Choose a great Hawaii wedding package that best suits your taste and needs. Look for extra features or offerings that will make your dream wedding a reality.

·         Unusual ceremony. What’s the use of going to Hawaii if you’re going to be wed in a traditional chapel? Oahu weddings can be held at exotic yet lovely locations such as a hilltop with a view of the Pacific Ocean or a rainforest under a waterfall.

Various Wedding Theme Ideas

Planning a wedding always requires the careful consideration of details. Since it is a very important day that will mark the official union of a couple, every step of planning the event is crucial. It is very helpful to find various Wedding Theme Ideas that can be able to help in the decision-making process. Some of the most common themes that are used are garden wedding themes, butterfly themes, underwater or ocean theme (even when it is held indoors), Las Vegas style or perhaps a Greek-inspired wedding. With each of these, the symbols and the colors are apparent to make the theme obvious for everyone to enjoy.

One great idea for weddings that are held during the wintertime or the colder times of the year is to have a theme that brings a warming effect. An example is to have a topical theme where the colors would most likely be yellow and light blue. The backdrop of the reception could be the image of the sunset by the beach. The flowers could be those of lilies, orchids and daisies. A picturesque way to decorate the table would be to have a pineapple centerpiece that is nestled on top of colorful lei. The doors and the sides of the couple’s table could be decorated with bamboo torches.

If you would take note of Hawaiian Wedding Theme Ideas, you could be able to easily think of souvenirs and designs that can be used on the invitation and the thank you cards. This also makes a great idea for the design of the wedding cake where it fondant can be used to create small images of palm trees, leis, flowers or an image of the sun. The ideas that will pop in to your mind are practically endless. This idea can even be used in selecting the menu for the occasion.

Wedding dilemma, need some help?

Nothing is set in stone right now, so that’s why changes are okay.

Anyway when we first planned on getting married, we planned on having a nice church wedding with reception not to far away but now I am kind of changing mind.

Now I can’t decide if I want a church wedding or a hawaiian luau out style or the third option an indoor wedding at some nice place that looks like it is night time with stars and candles. I’m torn among all three and I don’t know what to do.

Any help and ideas would be greatly appreciated.

By the way here is a luau out wedding site. http://www.favorideas.com/wedding-themes/beach-themes/pull-off-a-hawaiian-luau-wedding-reception-anywhere-with-ease/

Hi. I like the Hawaiian Luau idea, but in order to really pull that off….you will need to do as pictured….fresh orchids and other exotic (think expensive) flowers. I really don’t think you can pull it off with fake leis and decorations from Oriental Trading Company or another online place. Also, the pig?? Hmmmm…

IF you were going off to Hawaii for your honeymoon…this might be nice, though.

Why not the church wedding and the reception at a venue with stars and candles. OR…a nighttime wedding at the church with only candles as the light?

Destination wedding in Jamaica?

I want to get married in Jamaica in Sep 09.Im hoping I dont spend more than $3000. I want to use a resort where its all inclusive. Its going to be me my groom and maybe 5 other people. I want to go to Ocho Rios is Jamaica. Does anyone have an idea of where I can go and the prices without the airplane tickets. Is Jamaica a good place to get married? Me and my fiance wanted something romantic in a beach or garden where we can take beautiful pictures. Then we were going to just have an intimate with our guests and cut a cake. Very simple. Can anyone offer some practical suggestions? Any unique ideas? thanks

Yes, $3000 for the two of you should cover a basic all-inclusive resort & air fare. Barely. But doable.

Check out: http://www.all-inclusive-jamaica.com/

You want to go to a “couples” only instead of an “adult only.” They tend to be much more romantic. However, that could pose a problem for your guests. Most all resorts offer a wedding package.

Couples resorts and Sandals resorts are the biggies and they have resorts in Ochos Rios. There is also Montego Bay. If you don’t care about “couples only” or even “adult only” then you have more choices. All-inclusives are helpful when you are on a budget because there are fewer hidden expenses.

I would def. go to AAA or a REAL PERSON travel agent. They are really helpful. There are tons of all-inclusive’s in Jamaica, and a travel agent can help you weed through all of them.

Beach Wedding Favors – Now Easier Than Ever

A beach wedding is truly a special event. Beaches themselves are beautiful in their own right and are places where romance can bloom freely. However; logistically, beaches can be a difficult place to plan and conduct a wedding. Sand and unpredictable winds and weather can themselves be problematic, so careful thought should go into everything that goes into a beach wedding.

Plan Ahead

This careful though process should should definitely extend to your beach wedding favors and this particularly applies if the wedding or the the reception is to be held right out on the beach. Should the wind kick up, you can expect that it will pick up some sand, so think of this when you are organizing and doing your design work.

Beware of Sand and Wind

Open items such as candles and candies are really something that should be avoided. This means that any items of this sort should be packaged. This also means that you would be well advised to purchase your wedding favors prepackaged if at all possible. Of course sea shell beach wedding favors are a no brainier but you may also want to consider items such as candles that have been decorated with sea shell.

Handy Beach Travel Kit

One great idea for beach wedding favors is a beach travel kit that you can make up yourself. Buy all of the items that you might need for a trip to the beach and pack them into handy little travel bags. Sunscreen, a beach towel, foam drink can insulator and a pair of flip-flops are just a few quick items that come to mind.

Tropical Beach Theme

Another idea for beach wedding favors is to go with a tropic motif. This means that tropical flavored candies such as coconut and mango would be in order. Also, remember to decorate your tables with tropical or tropical looking flowers.

Celebrities’ Beach wedding

We all know that having a wedding at the beach is the best way to say “I Do “. However, there is nothing better to have this fact confirmed by the rich and famous.  Some of these weddings are intimate affairs involving only close friends and relatives while the others are full blown Hollywood style weddings with hundreds of guests flocking from all over the world to attend the beach wedding. It is really fascinating that those who have everything and all the money in the world chose to have a simple and beautiful beach wedding. That is the beauty of a beach wedding. It’s not what you are but how much you care for the little things in life that matters.

One reason why celebrities choose to have a beach wedding is to ensure that they can lose the paparazzi. Heidi Klum and Seal got married in an extremely private ceremony in Seal’s villa near Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. 40 guests were present for the vows, including Leni, as well as other family and friends.

Bahamas has quite a reputation when it comes to hosting beach wedding for our favorite stars. Deion Sanders – the NFL legend and New York model – Pilar Biggers had an exquisite ceremony on ‘Paradise Island’ which was attended by just 80 of the couple’s closest friends and family members.  ‘Paradise Island’ also played host to reality television’s golden couple – Amber Brkich and Rob Mariano. The duo had a really lavish wedding attended by over 200 guests. Their wedding ceremony took place at sunset in one of the most beautiful beaches in the area.  Retired Tennis champion Chris Evert got married to Golfer Greg Norman in a $2 million fairytale wedding in a ceremony that overlooked the Nassau Harbor at sunset and attended by over 140 friends and family members.

Bahamas is not the only favored destination though. The other sought after destinations in the Caribbean are Barbados and Jamaica. Tiger Woods & Elin Nordegren married in the Barbados, in a ceremony held under a pagoda decorated with 10,100 crimson and black roses. The couple spent their Honeymoon aboard Tiger’s yacht, sailing and diving throughout the Caribbean. Liv Tyler and Royston Langdon exchanged their vows in a truly private affair in a villa on the island of Barbados. American theatre, film and television actor – Taye Diggs and Broadway actress Idina Menzel exchanged their vows in Jamaica. The ceremony   was a beautiful blend of both their African-American and Jewish heritage.

When it comes to the rich and the famous love for a beach wedding, even their pets are given that privilege. Pamela Anderson’s two canine companions pledged their undying devotion on a beautiful beach. The former Baywatch babe arranged a wedding for her Golden Retriever, Star, and her Chihuahua, Luca, on the beach in Malibu, California. Now that you know how awesome a beach wedding can be, get ready to be married under the sun to the sound of crashing waves.

Give Some Personality To Your Wedding Invitations

Do you wish to have a special wedding invitation for your wedding that has something worth to remember? May be the classic traditional style of using white paper with engraving printing technique will not do the job. One needs to add some personality to an invitation to make it sound interesting. If you are willing to do something different from the conventional methods then here are some tips for you to add some personality to your wedding invitations.

The first thing that you can do to add that special effect to your wedding invitation is add some texture. Recently, the designers are adding a small bow to each invitation. You can add a ribbon according to the color of the invitation to add charm. It is very easy to punch a hole in the corner of the invitation and add a ribbon to it. More than ribbons, you can also add beads, glitters and even small stones. If you have a theme set for your invitation such as a beach theme then you can also add some shells to it. You can use the Internet to find out other options available. Also check out the a few stationery shops to find out what they have got for the wedding invitations.

Secondly, you can add a photo to your wedding invitation. It helps your second cousins and far away relatives to remember you and feel close to you. You can also add the photo of your fiancé so that your near and dear ones can get a sneak preview. Another option can be that you can add a photo of you two both together. You can also add a punch line or a casual remark beneath the photo. Depending upon your needs you can either give a serious or a casual look to the wedding invitation.

Thirdly, you can give an ethnic touch to your invitation. This gives you a way to get in touch with your forgotten roots. If two people are from different cultural backgrounds then you can try using bilingual invitation. When you are using a different language for those who cannot understand it then do not forget to mention the essential information in English as well. The day, date, venue and time should be clearly mentioned. Another ethnic touch can be to use a scroll for your wedding invitation. This gives a royal look to your invitation.

Besides all these options, you are always free to use anything different and new. You should be daring enough to try experiment with different options while creating your wedding invitation. You can create a sample and see if something looks good or not. Whatever you choose and do, please make sure that you do not copy anything.
