Malibu isn’t just a beach; it’s practically a whole coastline. Stretching for roughly 27 miles, Malibu comprises about a dozen beaches from Decker Rd. (Hwy. 23) in the west, to Topanga Canyon Blvd. in the east. At this part of the California coast, the beaches face mostly rather than west, except for Westward Beach near Pt. Dume.

The Malibu beaches lie along the base of the Santa Monica Mountains, which are so often subjected to the vicious circle of fires, floods and mudslides. The Pacific Coast Highway, or PCH, is squeezed between the beach and the cliffs much of the way. The ocean side is lined with highway hugging houses of the mostly rich and/or famous.

The beaches themselves range from wide and sandy to so narrow that the waterline comes up directly under someone’s deck. Rocky coves and tide pools are also plentiful.

Malibu itself does not have a cohesive downtown section. Restaurants are spread out, as are a few shopping centers sprinkled with chain stores mixed with specialty shops. Residential sections vary from small, crowded beachfront houses to mountaintop mansions.

GETTING TO MALIBU BEACH CALIFORNIA

You can take the I-10 west through Santa Monica, then veer north onto PCH (Hwy 1) as it hits the coast. Keep driving, and you’ll soon be in Malibu.

Alternatively, from Highway 101 in the San Fernando Valley, you can take a 15-20 minute winding drive through the Santa Monica Mountains along Topanga Canyon Blvd., Malibu Canyon Rd. (Los Virgenes exit), Kanan Dume Rd., or Decker Road. All of these drop down into some part of the Malibu coast, with Malibu Canyon Road taking you the closest to the pier, lagoon, Surfrider Beach and shopping areas.

THE MALIBU BEACHES

Starting at the Ventura County line and heading east towards Santa Monica, there’s Leo Carrillo State Beach, which has camping, tide pools, trails and interesting rock formations. Then comes Nicholas Canyon County Beach, where you park on the bluff and hike down to surf or dive.

The next three beaches are scenic coves with more unusual rock formations. El Pescador State Beach at the end of Decker Rd. has a narrow sandy beach and picnic tables on the bluff above. La Piedra State Beach is similar, only further east.

El Matador State Beach is larger, with a larger pay parking lot and a trail and stairway down to the beach. It also has stunning sea stacks, which attract cormorants and other sea birds.

Broad Beach Road goes through a residential neighborhood between Pacific Coast Highway and the beach. there are a couple of beach access points that go between the houses. You can enjoy the beach at the end of the path or steps, but be careful not to trespass onto private property.

In marked contrast, Zuma Beach County Park is a wide sandy beach with lots of facilities, including restrooms, showers, dressing rooms, snack stands, volleyball, swings and a large pay parking lot.

Point Dume State Beach is next to the Point Dume Headlands, which has some trails. The beach has tide pools and sandstone cliffs. Westward Beach is the section towards the Point, which faces west.

Paradise Cove is a small but lovely beach with expensive parking. No surfing is allowed. Escondido Beach can be found near Malibu Cove Colony Drive. The access point is next to a blue and white trash can. This is a diving spot. Corral State Beach/Solstice Beach is a narrow sandy beach with street parking.

Where Malibu Road veers off PCH through another neighborhood, there are several public stairways next to telltale blue and white trash cans. These paths or stairways go between private homes, so take care not to disturb the residents or trespass. Once on the beach, you must stay a certain distance away from the rear of the houses; below the high tide line should be safe enough.

Malibu Bluffs County Park is off of Pacific Coast Highway, at the end of Malibu Canyon Road, across from Pepperdine University. While not a beach itself, you can park there, use the restrooms and hike down a one and a half mile trail down through the bluffs with magnificent views to Malibu Road and the beach access points mentioned previously. Exhilarating! (But don’t forget you have to hike back

up later.)

Malibu Lagoon State Beach bears an estuary, the Malibu Lagoon, the historic Adamson House and museum, the Malibu Pier, and popular Surfrider Beach which has great waves for surfing.

East of the pier along PCH, are more public stairways to the beach between houses, marked by the blue and white trash cans. Las Tunas State Beach is narrow, sandy and rocky in places. Be careful of rusted metal groins under the water if you swim there.

Topanga State Beach lies at the end of Topanga Canyon Boulevard. It is a narrow sandy beach with rocky parts. There is a pay parking lot, but people also park up along Topanga Canyon Boulevard.

Malibu is a beautiful place to visit and is sure to have a beach to suit just about everyone.

What are some cheap but very nice honeymoon places?

We’re looking for a place that is remotely private, but with plenty of things to do; such as restaurants, snorkeling, hiking, site seeing, or something! We want something that is tropical and wont kill our budget. We’ve looked at the Caribbean and Hawaii and those are our main interests but haven’t found anything that is really nice at an affordable rate. We would also like to have a long honeymoon so that is why the price is a big issue. I live in Ga. of the US. and he is currently in Japan but we will most likely be having the wedding on Virginia beach.

Hmm, since he lives in japan, I would have said Australia or New Zealand, because it is the most beautiful snorkeling and waterfront in Australia, and landscape in New Zealand. But South Carolina is a very beautiful place, especially the beach houses. There is plenty of beauty there at the beaches and (even though I am not a beach person) I spent all day relaxing and laying on the surf board in the sun because it is just so relaxing. Tips For A Perfect Beach Wedding

After watching 3 separate beach weddings occur in one day, it dawned on me that there are many things that brides simply don’t think about. I won’t go into detail about the basic wedding elements such as food to serve, seating arrangements and items like that, but these are things that you may not have considered for beach weddings in particular.

Bride Tide

One of the tricks to holding a beach wedding is timing it properly with the tides. It will make the difference as to whether you’ll hold the wedding on tight packed wet sand or the soft white sand of the dunes. Consider the tide tables and make note of when the tide is normally in or out for the particular beach where you’ll be holding your wedding. While there is normally a lot of variance from day to day, there is some consistency that you can base your service around.

Weather the Weather

It’s best to avoid hurricane seasons which can cause all types of unpredictability with not only the weather, but also the aforementioned tides. But because you’re close to the ocean, you should always have an alternate plan if it gets rained out. It’s a worse case scenario, but you need to know that if it can go wrong, it probably will. It may also be smart to spend time in the area beforehand to see if the area is prone to sand flies or if the section of beach you’re using is windy. Gusts of sand blowing in the eyes of your guests and the wedding party can quickly ruin the day.

Audio

The ocean is the only place on earth that is both loud and relaxing at the same time. It’s a strange anomaly and it’s the relaxing part that has people forgetting about the loud ocean part altogether. The crashing waves can make it almost impossible to hear much being said. Make sure that your music is being pushed through a PA system and most importantly, that your pastor/priest/minister is also miked through that PA as well. Even the most booming natural voice won’t be able to be heard over Mother Nature. I watched two weddings where the minister wasn’t miked. The first had to yell over the ocean and it made it very unromantic when it got to the “I Do” portions of the wedding. The second was a woman pastor who simply could not be heard at all. Microphone everyone that will be talking.

Footwear

Consider what footwear your wedding party is going to be wearing and have them dress accordingly. I was surprised how many women came to a beach wedding in high heels. Make sure that your wedding party has the right type of footwear for a beach wedding and that your guests also know to plan accordingly with either flip flops or sandals.

Parents/Grandparents

Take into consideration that your parents and grandparents will have to walk the beach to their seating. If you have any relatives that require the use of canes, walkers or that have any physical disabilities that make trudging through sand difficult, you should account for extra time getting them seated or possibly even seating them beforehand.

Distract The Kids

The second children hit the beach, you can expect them to be distracted easily. Make it easier on yourself and simply accommodate that distraction by providing kids in attendance with beach themed wedding favors or even providing them with a small shovel or bucket. Maybe even set aside an area off to the side where they can play quietly making sand castles instead of having their parents managing their fidgeting instead of enjoying your big day.

Uninvited Guests

Public access beaches will have your wedding surrounded by half naked adults and screaming kids complete with frisbees, dogs, and surfers. This is something to consider for potential interruptions. Check the sturdiness of any seating you supply. There’s nothing worse than your grandmother taking a fall when the chair legs sink into the sand behind her. Benches are typically a good idea because of their broader feet which are less susceptible to sinking into the sand once someone sits in them. It’s also best to preset each chair into the sand to make sure that any further sinking is minimal.

Aisle Be Back

The aisle where the bride will be walking towards the altar is going to be messy. If you can arrange for there to be a walkway, that would preferably be ideal, but most likely improbable. Cloth aisle runners will sink into the sand once they get stepped on by your guests and then your wedding party. Thinking outside of the box to keep the aisle still “picture worthy” will be tricky. Some ideas may include having the flowergirl use an excessive amount of flowers to cover the center aisle with a lot of flowers to partially cover up the trampled sand. It looks much nicer than an crumpled up, stepped on, sandy aisle runner that makes it almost impossible for a nice center aisle shot.

Beach themed wedding favors are a great touch for a beach wedding obviously, but do it yourself (DIY) wedding favors such as hand painted seashells or sand dollars are a nice touch and can save you tons of money. The aforementioned North Carolina Crystal Coast, and especially in the Emerald Isle area of the Crystal Coast, there are nice sized seashells virtually everywhere. Grab a few dozen and hand paint names, dates, personal notes and glitter them up for a fantastic and frugal wedding favor idea.

is the birdcage card box appropriate for beach wedding?

I have a birdcage wedding card box and I was wondering if it would be ok to use it for a beach wedding. I thought I could put some sand and seashells in the bottom of it. What do you think of this idea

I would worry about a cardboard box, that it would blow away. I would worry about a birdcage that the envelopes would blow away. Make sure it is big enough for all the envelopes to lay flat, and that the slats are small. Otherwise, cute idea.
Me, I would find some sort of artificial plant that looked like seaweed, and get a fake seagull to stick on the top of it.
But sand and shells are fine.
Saw one in the Martha Stewart wedding magazine, it had bouquets in the corners. It was gorgeous.

When my partner and I were deciding where to go on our wedding, we knew one thing, we sought to go to Penang in Malaysia, to celebrate with relatives out there, but we knew we sought to then move onto wherever moreover after that, the only thing was where?

The Caribbean or Africa were a no go as the charge to fly half way around the world and then back sequence again would have been monumental. Also the endure was a bit of a dilemma too. The hotel was fantastic, and deciding to handle ourselves to a continue in the Ocean Wing, the select wing with its own secretive team, breakfast and luxury rooms with sea views and giant soak tub on the lanai, was well appeal the bonus money.

The hotel had a great span of restaurants, and deciding to go half-embark was a good option. Half-board entitles you to breakfast and feast at the Coffee Terrace restaurant, or 100RM (about 17 quid) per role towards a meal in one of the other restaurants. Tepi Laut ‘Makan Street’ was a normal Malaysian shape food risk, donation all the tastes that make Malaysian cooking so unique, with dishes from China, India, Sri Lanka and Indonesia. Each post open something different, and the vegetable class featured baskets of uncooked Chinese vegetables and sauces where people could put what they wanted on a plate with the sauces of their choice. The chef would then cursorily stir fry these while you pause.

Our favourite was the kangkong belacan, what is mostly ung choi fried in garlic and sambal (a powerful hot shrimp paste) with some red chillies – very hot but very succulent.

The unfeigned highlight for us was the orangutans. Each day, guests can make a donation to the preserve and trek a suddenly way into the jungle to a pair of viewing platforms to observe the baby orangutans feed. The experience is quite plainly amazing.

They are extremely cute and very nimble. Some shy, others mischievous it is fantastic to mind their humorous antics. We went twice to see them, the first time I packed my camera’s recall license of around 500 photos well before the hour ended and was frantically having to erase bad shots to take more.

How to plan my trip to Thailand for our honeymoon in November?

We are planning to go to Thailand for 2 weeks in November. I don’t know where to go, should we fly to Bangkok stay a night then go to Phuket? or go straight to Puhket?
We want to relax somewhere after so much we’ve been through for the wedding, I can say one full week of relaxing by a very nice beach and maybe the other week or less adventure, sightseeing or a combination of beach and adventure. People suggest so many things i’m confused. Malaysia and Singapore are close and many suggest going there too. I wanna know where in Thailand is better to stay consider all the facts I gave you. I want to have a nice mix of everything for this trip. Also where should we stay, some say it’s so cheap in Thailand and some say it’s so expensive, i’m so confused. PLEASE HELP as I need to book soon. Thanks!

I have stayed in Thailand many times and if you want to relax especially for a honeymoon i would stay first at phuket- if you do not want to go out at nights much you could stay in areas like kata or karon, however the place i would choose (the heart of phuket) would be patong beach, theyre are hundreds of amzing hotels and most have them have honeymoon suites.
In phuket they’re are many tours you and your wife could do like evening cruises, beach dinners etc. And patong beach is great to just lay back all day and buys a deck chair for around 80 baht (under $3 AUD) and people will walk up and dwn the beach and sell you cheap beer, drinks and food that are perfectly safe.
As for Bangkok you will need much more than a day as it is such a vibrant and busy city i would reccomend staying at least 4-5 days in bangkok but these would be extremely busy and jam packed if you really want to explore the ciy, the shopping is also a lot cheaper in bangkok.
As for hotels in phuket the hotels are really laid back and relaxed you can feel the beachy atmosphere however in Bangkok theyre are a lot more luxurious hotels so spa services etc are a lot better.

Although the date of someone’s demise isn’t the kind of thing we typically celebrate (what, no piñatas?), we must remember that Faulkner’s writing relied heavily on themes of death and decay, and that he would never have us flinch in the face of his – or anyone else’s – mortality.

What Faulkner would have us flinch in the face of, apparently, was his writing, which teems with convoluted plots, impossibly long sentences, classical allusions, time shifts, narrator shifts, and a really, really – what’s it called? – big vocabulary. (Hemingway famously criticized: “Poor Faulkner. Does he really think big emotions come from big words? He thinks I don’t know all the ten-dollar words. I know them all right.” Uh huh. Sounds like someone’s got a case of word envy.) Throw all that on top of the fact that Faulkner’s Southern Gothic writing is teeming with dark humor, morbidity, grotesque characters, and undercurrents of racism and bigotry, and you don’t exactly end up with the kind of novel you read at the beach. (Just two Nobel Prizes in literature.)

If you’re looking for something with which to honor the man on his death-day, you might try the significantly more manageable “A Rose for Emily.” This gothic short story is all about social convention, alienation, forbidden love, murder, and some seriously macabre romantic preferences. Think “Twilight,” minus all the sex. (We hope.)

True to style, this story begins at a funeral. A lighthearted yet thought-provoking funeral followed by four weddings? Not a chance. The year is around 1930, and the funeral is being held for Miss Emily Grierson, an aged Southern belle whose overbearing father crippled her chances of ever having a normal love life. Flashback to the 1890’s: when Emily’s father finally bites the dust, leaving his 30-year-old spinster daughter with a house but no money, Emily sequesters herself in her room for three days before admitting he has passed. Taking pity on her situation, the townspeople decide to exempt her from paying any further taxes. Life goes back to normal and Emily sticks with what she does best: living as a shut-in. That is, until a fun-loving but potentially shiesty Northerner named Homer Barron comes to town and is seen driving around with her. The wild speculation begins. Are they getting married? Are they breaking up? Have they gotten back together? Is he gay? No, seriously, is he gay? Because it’s Mississippi in the 1890’s here, people.

Interestingly, when Homer tries to leave Emily (who has just been buying arsenic) and is last seen entering her house, all the speculation seems to stop. In fact, when the weird smell appears, the townspeople kindly sprinkle lime all around the house. No questions asked. (In all fairness, he was a Northerner.) For the next thirty-something years – with the exception of a several-year stint in which the young ladies go to her house for painting lessons – Emily lives out her life in complete solitude. And then dies, bringing our story full-circle. With Emily’s funeral out of the way, the townspeople can finally go inside the house and investigate. And what awaits them there in the bed of the bridal chamber? It’s none other than Homer Barron, naturally! (Very naturally, in fact. Think processes-of-nature naturally.) But wait, we haven’t even gotten to the real Hallmark moment yet! Next to Homer’s lovingly-arranged corpse is a pillow – still bearing the indentation mark of recent use – with one of Emily’s long, gray hairs on it.

So as you can see, the idea of celebrating William Faulkner’s death-day isn’t particularly morbid after all. What’s most important is that – just as with his writing – we are able to maintain enough presence of mind that the dark and disgusting parts don’t distract us from the larger message. What, then, is “A Rose for Emily” really about? You could argue that it’s an allegory for the slow process of modernization in the South. After all, the aging Miss Emily endures painfully in a town where she has long-since outlived her usefulness – a fact which is mirrored in the cyclical structure of a story that just can’t seem to let her go. With her, she brings the unburied ghosts of the past into the present, forcing her peers to relive their own dark history. (We let our children take painting lessons from WHOM?!)

Or, you could be a little more general and go with Faulkner’s claim that it’s about “the simple things which all human beings want.” You know, if that’s what you’re into.

1. 4/10 I love that there is some color on it, but aside from that, the rest is very plain and the fabric looks stiff an uncomfortable.
2. 9/10 Absolutely beautiful. The lace is gorgeous, and I love the waist.
3. 7/10 Very casual. I don’t care much for the top, but the bottom half looks very pretty.
4. 8/10 I am personally not a fan on strapless. I don’t like the texture of the very top, but the bottom is very pretty, and I love the little flower on it. A little more formal than the 3rd one.
